Hey everyone!
I’ll be rounding up all the things that I try to consume in the world of crypto into just 5 super quick summary bullet points. Think of it as 5 must reads for crypto.
If you are a part of something that I mention in the newsletter, you are eligible to earn $CALVIN tokens if you provide additional commentary & help me (and our audience) learn more about what you’re doing. All you have to do is tweet at me @calchulus.
The goal of this newsletter is simply to gain more knowledge about interesting crypto things; with each edition only being able to fit a certain amount of interesting things , it’s kinda like a blockchain ledger with a block-size limit: hence the name Knowledger.
This newsletter won’t be periodic in terms of time, but rather in terms of chunks of 5: When I get 5 noteworthy things that I think are worthwhile to share, I’ll share it. Can’t promise any initial block times just yet :)
With that, I’ll start off with the genesis block with a bit of dogfooding:
Personal Token To Bootstrap Hackathons (and maybe DAOs?)
I saw some cool stuff happening ahead of ETHDenver, so I thought I’d jump on the train with some ideas, and thus, the personal token experiment began. Please check the full thread for a bunch of ideas, and jump in the Telegram group if you want to discuss more! Here's a personal token experiment: a virtual hackathon - I like all of these ideas - will giveaway a prize pool of up to 10,000 $CALVIN to anyone that builds something that satisfies one of these products. First prize will be 5,000 $CALVIN I will mentor/advise any projectThe on-going thread of #DeFi Hackathon projects ideas. Feel free to use any idea if you want to. 👇defiprime @defiprimeI wrote about all of the ETHDenver hacks submitted! Read them in this tweet thread below:
Everyone’s talking about the bZx exploits, so I’d be remiss if I don’t mention it. However, I want it to be known that those who guillotine projects that fail rather than try to figure out how the next iteration can proceed will never be the ones that find innovation. For the official announcement, please check bZx’s statement. I’ll also just drop Kerman’s beautiful illustrations (such as the one below) and his substack post on bZx here, and also note that flash loans are not the problem. Using illiquid dexes or inappropriate oracles will be a problem. I would love to make a prediction market on how many oracle exploits occur in 2020.
There’s a lot going on in the world of stablecoins. With help from https://curve.fi (built by Michael from NuCypher) and https://iearn.finance (built by Andre Cronje), we may see the best venues for lending and trading stablecoins that we’ve ever seen. These products like iearn’s yTokens could be the metastablecoin-basket tool to end them all.
This one is an oldie, but actually trying to read up on voting models that are harder to game. This one is one of them: https://medium.com/giveth/conviction-voting-a-novel-continuous-decision-making-alternative-to-governance-aa746cfb9475
